Matching and Going
Remember the days of matchey-matchey? When your bag had to match your shoes that had to match your belt and your earrings had to match your necklace that had to match your bracelet. And if you wore one color on top you had to wear the same on the bottom? Those days are looooong gone, thank goodness!!! Not only are they gone but matchey-matchey is frowned upon in fashion circles. It makes you look old, and boring, and like a child wearing Garanimals. The rule of dressing today is...it has to go. Not match (please!) but go. Lots of colors and prints go together. Lots. Neutrals go with neutrals, colors go with colors and neutrals, florals go with stripes and polka dots, camo, and plaid. And leopard? Well, it goes with just about everything and makes your outfit much more chic and interesting. Treat it as a neutral, wear it like you would wear black, brown or tan. About 80% of my outfits contain leopard or some kind of animal print. When I work with a client on building her wardrobe we get the neutrals first and then we add animal print. We usually start off small with a belt, scarf, bracelet or shoe. A little animal print goes a long way but makes a big statement.
In this outfit I'm wearing a cream and navy striped sweater with charcoal pants. Not navy pants but charcoal. The sweater and the pants are both neutrals and they go together. The scarf is red with a touch of navy. It's floral and the sweater is striped but it goes. The shoes are red and they go with the gray, navy and cream and of course, with the scarf. The leopard belt and the leopard bracelet add a touch of interest but are not overwhelming. Oh, and my earrings and ring are silver but my bracelets are gold and it's ok. Because you can mix metals, they go!
Do you match or go?
